C activities

C1 – Improved status of habitats 6230*, 6510 and 6520 as well as of priority meadow enclaves

The species equilibrium of grass growth will be renewed as well as the structure of habitats 6230, 6510 and 6520 (mountain meadows) in selected enclaves in form of classic farming and providing the necessary care. Necessary technology for the realization of these interventions will be provided.

Status: Completed in December 2017.

Outputs: Direct realization of renewal measures took place in 2013 on 139 ha, in 2014 on 317 ha, in 2015 and 2016 on 363 ha. In 2017 then to 330 hectares. The total of 47 meadow enclaves was 540 ha. This area of meadow habitats includes nearby work areas as parts of the enclaves. 2 tenders to priority enclaves of the project have been issued and in February 2015, the 3rd tender was issued for substitute enclaves. The third tender was closed on March 23rd 2015.  In 2016 6 localities were transferred to so-called aftercare care, which is no longer covered by the LC project. No more challenges have been announced. In some locations, in justified cases, management was extended until 2017. In 2017, it was managed on 390 hectares, of which 146 hectares were grown, and the pasture was 151 hectares. We have signed managemnet contracts on 46 enclaves with 37 farmers.

C2 – Prevention of the invasive plant species expansion and expansion of woods within habitats 6230*, 6510 and 6520

The so-called invasive species of plants, which damage the non-native types of plants through their spread will be suppressed. The most frequent ones are Rumex alpinus and Lupinus polyphyllus. Furthermore, woods will be removed to free up the meadow area which will come to be used by farmers in later years.

Status: Completed in December 2017.

Outputs: In 2013, the rumex alpinus was suppressed on approx. 34,4 ha. This area saw repeated interventions after the plant growth has regenerated (the intervention was usually done twice a year). 4.4 ha were treated in 2014, 4.3 ha in 2015, 4.5 ha in 2016. The activity of cutting down trees took place in 2013 on approx. 6 ha of meadow grasslands. 7 ha were treated in 2014, 14.8 ha in 2015, 8.3 in 2016.

The activity was extended until the fall of 2017, when 11.48 ha was cut and the alpine sorrel was disposed of on 1.25 unique hectares. In total, during the implementation of the activity, 50 hectares of planted trees were cut and more than 49 unique hectares affected by the invasion were treated, most of them by repeated intervention. By suppressing succession, new farmland is achieved.

C3 – Securing technical conditions for long-term existence of habitats 6230*, 6510 and 6520

Enclaves with difficult farming conditions (uneven terrain, unwanted waterlogging) will receive technical measures for higher accessibility of the land and their adaptation for effective realization of renewal measures. This includes cleaning and renewal of streamlets, picking stones from meadows.
Status: Completed in December 2017.

Outputs: In 2013 1.5 km of channels were renewed; 14 tonnes of stones were cleaned and settled, approx. 1 ha was settled. In 2014 4.5 km of channels were cleaned, 5 tonnes of stones cleaned. In 2015 6.5 km of channels were cleaned, 92 tonnes of stones cleaned. The fertilizing was added as a new part of the activity. Compost was spreaded in small amounts to 28 ha of meadows. In 2016 5.2 km of channels were renewed, 75 tonnes of stones and waste remowed.
Shelters for sheep were built at Brádlerovy Boudy in 2014. A grazing barrierfencing area was built at Sklenářovice in 2016 (on 120 ha). 2 small hay mowes and stabling for 10 sheep were built in the same place.
The activity was extended until the fall of 2017, when 709 m of grapes were cleaned, 9.7 tons of stones and waste was collected, 8 hectares of grass were being fertilized, 8,5 hectares of blueberries were destroyed.
A total of 18.7 km of gravel was restored, 202 tons of stones were cleared, land settled on 4 ha, fertilized 40 ha and blueberries were removed to 17 ha. These interventions will make it possible to better manage the meadows.

C4 – Providing socio-economic conditions for long-term existence of habitats 6230*, 6510 and 6520

Innovative processes for use of biomass were planned as part of this activity.
Status: Completed in September 2017

Outputs: Action started by processing the economic study and then put on hold. The project team is re-evaluating other options based on new findings obtained after the project’s approval.
The Associated Recipient DAPHNE will purchase (according to the current needs of the farmers) a harrowing technique that will provide them with long-term exclusive borrowing to help preserve and enhance the diversity of Europe-wide habitats.

The planned products have been re-evaluated and the newly planned "Small Business Loan Contracts" and "Marketing Strategy" have been delivered by the end of 2016. The result of the marketing strategy is the establishment of Farm Trails.

C5 – Support of habitat 6230* within farms

Specific measures will be realized on individual farms based on proposals set in the plans of careful management (activity A4).

Status: Completed in September 2017.

Outputs: Activity is commenced in 2015, preparation is progressing according to the plan of careful management (activity A4). In 2015, 8 framework contracts with individual farmers were concluded and individual measures were gradually ordered. In 2015 measures were implemented to support 56 ha of habitats 6230. In 2016, a new management plan for a new farmer in Šímovy Chalupy was created and two new framework contracts were concluded. It was supported by nearly 145 hectares of nardus meadows.

C6 – Support of the populations and reintroduction of Gentianella bohemica*

As part of this activity, measures are introduced to support the current population of Gentianella in Albeřice. Restoration interventions will be done according to the current rescue program, which was approved for this species. The species is currently not found in the location Černý důl.
Status: Completed

Outputs: Measures have been taken at the location Horní Albeřice. Type of care: harrowing, mowing at suitable times and turf disruption in fall. These measures are repeated every year on an area of 1500 m2 in Horní Albeřice and 200m2 in Černý důl. The population in Horní Albeřice was 11 plants of Gentianella in 2013, 70 in 2014, 44 in 2015, 62 in 2016 and 85 in 2017.

C7 – Creating conditions for undisturbed growth of population of the Cottus gobio

Revitalization of watercourses will take place based on the disruption of technical fortifications, migration barriers and improving accessibility by building passages for fish or reconstructing steps. The activity is a continuation of strategic documents elaborated as part of activity A6.

Status: Completed

Outputs: The project documentation for the revitalization of Albeřice stream and Bolkovský stream is completed. In 2015 adjustments were made to the Albeřický brook (1.5 km). In 2016 was unblocked 750 m of Bolkovského stream. Several boulders and fish transitions have been created and transverse obstacles have been eliminated in the streams to prevent the migration of bullhead. A methodology for assessing the impact of watercourse management on bullhead populations has been done. In 2017 has been completed Fisheries management concept for krkonoše streams.
