A brief article on how the LIFE CORCONTICA team joined the Day of Earth celebrations and the day after for the Clean Krkonoše action.

Like last year, LIFE CORCONTICA teamed on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day and this year on two waves.

One part of the LIFE Day of the Earth took place together with the LAG Group "Come on!" in Jilemnice. The second part is in Sklenarovice.

To Sklenarovice, as well as last year, together with the 8th and 9th grade of the Lánov Elementary School, we organized a "trip".

And what was this "trip"?

In 2015, both schoolchildren and masters of teachers helped our working group, or "grasshoppers", to intervene to support the management of glacier meadows. That's why we've added a few photos from last year to the gallery for reminders. Some of the pupils have been here for the second time.

This year, we planned a partition. The first smaller group went to help the workgroup with the clearing of the cut branches. A second, much larger group then raced the rake and was able to dig out old-fashioned meadows. Here again, the cut branches had to be removed.

This year, however, there have been several unpleasant obstacles. I am therefore thankful for this part of this article.

The detour through Jánské Lázně has delayed us a little and we got into, albeit small, time pressures.

The crossing to Sklenářovice in Mladé Buky started to be repaired during the week and was closed. Unfortunately, the temporary passage was not adapted for the bus and we, together with 26 pupils, stayed 4 km from Sklenarovice. There was not much time and the decision whether to really do something for the meadows or just go through the interpretation had to be done immediately. So we decided that the best thing would really be to help the meadows. To get something at least, we had to quickly find a transport to Sklenarovice.

That's why I thank my colleagues from the Administration who accidentally went around and some of my children brought me to Sklenarovice.

Unfortunately, the carriage as a shuttle would still hold us off. This is the second, but certainly not less, thank to TRAIL Servis a.s. employees who took delivery and a larger group of pupils were also exported. This is why TRAIL Service has become unexpectedly the sponsor of Earth Day.

Another thanks belongs to our "mega-intervention unit" for patience in abstention, excellent cooperation, help with organization and good ideas.

And, of course, I must not forget to thank the pupils I am proud of.
The path to the final meadows was long, steep and demanding, even the tools they had to carry out themselves. After this climb, we were still waiting to work with raking and pulling branches. We really got enough and in the end, they did some good lunch.

The way back to the bus was already on foot and perhaps in a good mood of work.

I look forward to seeing you again in a year!

The second part of the Earth Day, under our direction in Jilemnice, was led by Alena Bartošová.

The main idea was to show pupils and other interested parties different ways of farming in the meadows and to draw attention to the possible problems of individual types.

For simplicity, 4 types of "care" were introduced. Classic mowing, mowing with mulch, grazing and leaving meadow fallow.

The greatest attraction here was the presence of live animals. Sheep and goats with kids were here to demonstrate the way pasture management and, as expected, they have achieved the greatest success.

For ourselves, we moved Earth Day on Saturday, April 23, and as part of the "Clean Giant Mountains" event, we attacked a black landfill site at the Velveta Gorge. It was the third landfill that we had destroyed around the enclave. Unfortunately, it does not seem to have been the last one either. These landfills are already several decades old (we estimate it in the 1970s and 1980s).
We are very pleased that the current cottage owners do not have the need to replenish these landfills with modern waste and not pollute their surroundings.

In this way, you readers and supporters of pure nature, please ask for the possible identification of other such places near the meadow enclaves. In the years to come, we may, together with you, be able to plunge into other landfills.

And what to say at the end? We would love to come once and say that there is nothing to clean and the Giant Mountains are finally clean.

Some photos you can see there.
